Tisha B’Av

This week’s STLS topic is Satan. If you are wondering what the topic has to do with my title, I’ll explain.

Tisha B’Av means the ninth day in the month of Av on the Jewish calendar-the month we are in now and today is Tisha B’av. Many things have happened on this day in Israeli and Jewish history, none of them good. The Jewish people mark this day as a day of fasting and they read the book of Lamentations in their synagogues.

Here is a list of what has happened on this day throughout history:

This is the day the majority of the spies came back saying that the people would not be able to overtake the land. The result was HaShem (literally means The Name-stands for G-d) commanding the Israelites to wander forty years in the wilderness. (Numbers 13-14).

The first temple was destroyed

The second temple was destroyed

Betar was the last fortress to hold out against the Romans during the Bar Kochba revolt in 135 B.C. On Tisha B’Av, the Romans prevailed sealing the fate of Israel.

In 1492, Spain issued the decree that all Jews needed to leave the country by…Tisha B’Av. Any Jew found after that would be killed.

World War 1 began on Tisha B’Av.

What does this have to do with Satan, you ask? Everything. In the first example we see that the people and the spies were given a spirit of fear and unbelief. Caleb and Joshua told the people that since HaShem had told them to take possession of the land, they would be able to defeat the people currently residing in the land. But the people gave in to the fear and deception of Satan and believed the ten other spies instead of believing what HaShem had told them. We know that Adonai (another name for G-d) does not give us a spirit of fear or of unbelief.

In the other examples, we see that the end result of all that happened was to destroy the Jewish people and the land of Israel. Who else but Satan, the father of lies and destroyer of souls, would want to destroy Adonai’s people and home?

It is not coincidence that these all happened on the same date either. In the occult, numbers are very important and have meanings. From the occult perspective:

“The number 9 representing man and everything to do with the physical and material plane, is the number of force, energy, destruction and war in its most dominant quality. In its relation to ordinary life it denotes energy, ambition, leadership, domination. It represents iron, the metal from which the weapons of warfare are made, and the Planet Mars which it stands for in Astrology…”

It is the number of destruction and war. Both temples were destroyed on this day. The Romans were able to defeat the last holdouts in Jerusalem on this day. The year after that fall, they literally plowed the Temple undergound. And WW1 began that day.

Lots of force, destruction and war going on. And in case some people don’t know, Mars is the god and planet of war.

We have seen how Satan has worked in the past. In part 2, I will examine how he is working now.

Wow! I never knew that all of those things happened on the same day of the year! Indeed, Satan is busy in this world.

I’m so thankful that my Lord conquered Satan and death. Although I’m still living in a place marred by sin, I know what the outcome will be. There sure is peace in that!

Thanks for your contribution this week.

Abrianna…I’m amazed that Tisha B’Av has such a
significant repitition of historical events impacting
    Jewish history.

Excuse, my ignorance, but doesn’t this seem a bit like numerology and astrology and aren’t those forms of witchcraft? (just a question) well, if so…
there is definite implication to satan.

Anyways, I…too, like Daquiri am thankful that Christ conquered satan, sin and death upon the cross and through His Resurrection!

I pray for the protection of the Jewish people and land of Israel. May Adonai protect and surround His people with Christ’s righteousness and deliver them from evil!

    Daiquiri and Amy,

Thank you for your comments. A lot of people do not realize how many events happened on Tisha B’Av, which was one reason I decided to write about it.

    Peggy,

You are correct-the numbers used by the occultists are forms of numerology, astrology and are a form of witchcraft. Keep in mind that even if we do not believe these numbers have any value or added power to them, the people that use them this way do believe in their power.

We need to remember that before the occultists came along, Ha Shem had already assigned meaning to numbers. For instance, each number of the aleph bet (Hebrew alphabet) has a numerical value assigned to each letter. Go here for more information on that: http://www.jewfaq.org/alephbet.htm

You will need to scroll down to see the numerical values assigned to each letter. Each letter also has a word picture associated with it. Click here for ancient word pictures:
    http://www.biblicalhebrew.com/alphabet.htm

And here for the modern equivalent of what the word picture is today:
    http://www.yarahministries.org/alphabet.html

We can see from these examples that Satan has once again counterfeited and corrupted what Adonai originally set up as good.

Lastly, we know that Ha Shem himself gave numbers values. The seventh day of the week is Shabbat, a time to enter into His rest. There are seven commanded Biblical Feasts, ten commandments, etc…

Yesterday it struck me while watching the news that Tish B’Av had a relevant happening again on this very significant date.. As I was watching the national news the tv anchor person said that Jews in Georgia were running for their lives to get out of the Republic of Georgia due to the fighting there.

Since I know about Tish B’Av.. and all the historical happenings on this date I was immediately reminded of them and added this one to the long number in history. It was ironic to me the newscaster specifically mentioned “Jews running for their lives.”

Ok, this puts the book of Esther in perspective for me, too… if the people “casting lots” for the best day to destroy the Jewish people were really believing in this numerology or whatever, it would have been the best day.

AND YET… God is still sovereign. I heard that Hitler forbade the reading of Esther, maybe for the same reason LOL!! Still the best part, Haman getting hanged on his own gallows. Best story in the Bible.

Thankfully God is still the same always. I don’t understand the significance of the calendar but there ARE forces out there.

Do you guys believe in demons too? Because I do, but I’m not sure how much “influence” demons and Satan really have, and how much of our own sin is just plain old our idea. In the last day during judgment, maybe Satan will occasionally get up and say, THAT sin wasn’t my fault! He thought of that one HIMSELF!

    LOL

    Abrianna,
Thank you for sharing all the background. I copied the sites and will further investigate!

Thank you so much for your response! I did not realize that I would find a response here but I’m learning.

What you have shared is enough and I believe you…we just need to be alert to the enemy’s tactics in our midst so we are not further deceived. We should not be partaking in anything that opens doors to the enemy to have a hold.

I realize that their are much symbolism in numbers. The reason I commented on this was because I needed to renounce satan and all his works, etc. in my life because as a young person I studied (out of interest & curiousity)numerology and palm reading for fun to use at neighborhood Carnivals and with my friends not knowing at all the harms that I opened to myself and others.
