Gloucester High School officials are all a twitter because they have a record breaking number of teen pregnancies this year-17. Not only that, but most of them are girls 16 and under.
Why isn’t CPS stepping in and ripping these girls away from their families? At least here, unlike in Texas, we know these girls are underage. And the men are overage:
“In addition, at least some of the men involved in the pregnancies are in their mid-20s, a fact that prompted Mayor Carolyn Kirk of Gloucester to ask about statutory rape charges at last month’s School Committee meeting.”
Many of these girls made a pact with each other to become pregnant.
The school does have sex education classes starting in middle school and ending their freshman year.The program does seem to be working, since obviously many students are educated in how to have sex. They also have on-site day care at the school.
School officials are busy blaming movies and culture for this epidemic, and two of them resigned because they blame parents for not allowing birth control to be distributed without parental consent.
They see no correlation between the teen pregnancies and their daycare and sex ed programs-go figure.

No! These girls got pregnant because of lack of access to birth control! :]
On a serious note, statutory rape charges would be warranted, but I am concerned about the men being on a “sex offender” list. To my mind it’s just so not the same thing as sodomizing a 3-year-old, you know?

I like that NBC is spreading a good message to teens about not getting pregnant. I will have my brothers and sisters watch this show. I think it starts on June 25th at 9pm!
